Geometry and origami-inspired forms in Walker Winn’s work are vehicles for his main mission – the delivery of fresh color. In the Squares Series of 62 works (2006-2007), Winn investigates analogous and complementary color harmonies evolving to palettes recalling abstractions of the atomic 50s and mod 60s. Beginning with painterly Impressionistic forms, the series progresses to gumdrop-shaped punches of color with more graphic shading. In the Panels Series of 34 works (2007-2008), Winn’s geometric compositions are further refined to smaller-celled flowing grid patterns with shading effects reminiscent of frosting.
